April National Poetry Month Display in our Windows!

April National Poetry Month Display in our Windows!

April is National Poetry Month- established by the League of Canadian Poets in 1999 with the aim of bringing together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, and poets across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada's culture.

H&C Participated in Poetry Month this year by teaming up with Susan Stenson to create a Poetry display in our windows (visible from the Fort Street side of our store).

Susan Stenson

Susan Stenson's work has appeared in many Canadian literary magazines, most recently, Fiddlehead, Geist, and The Malahat Review. Sono Nis Press published her first book of poems, Could Love a Man, (2001) next came   My Mother Agrees With the Dead (Wolsak and Wynn, 2007). Her current book, Nobody Move, (2010) celebrates, without apology, Susan’s great loves: family, friends, the human heart.

Other Locations

Victoria’s Poet Laureate, Linda Rogers, the Downtown Victoria Business Association, and many downtown businesses and local poets have teamed up to bring National Poetry Month to Downtown Victoria. Poets are partnering with local businesses, providing original words that the stores are then incorporating into poetry themed window displays. Residents and visitors will be able to stroll around downtown enjoying the work of local poets who have selected their favourite businesses to laud.
